If you’re heading to the Niagara area this weekend, be ready for some delays on the Burlington Skyway.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has announced that two out of the four lanes heading towards Niagara on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), including those over the Burlington Skyway Bridge, will be closed from 1 a. m. Saturday until 5 a. m. Monday.

The ministry hasn’t specified why these closures are taking place.

The affected highway section begins just north of the bridge and is expected to stay closed all weekend long.

There will also be some overnight closures. The ramp from Eastport Drive and the collector lanes leading to the Niagara-bound bridge will close from 1 a. m. to 7 a. m. Saturday, and again from 8 p. m. Sunday until 5 a. m. Monday.

All ramps at the Northshore Boulevard interchange will stay open, while Eastport Drive will remain fully accessible and can serve as an alternate route to get back onto the Niagara-bound QEW.

The ministry is suggesting that travelers going to Niagara consider using GO Transit instead of driving this weekend.

It’s recommended that travelers check GO Transit schedules and service updates before they head out.
