A Canadian clothing retailer is making a comeback at a prominent shopping mall in southern Ontario after a short break, taking over a large space that used to be a sporting goods store and later turned into a temporary roller rink.

Urban Planet will reopen at Mapleview Centre in Burlington, bringing back its budget-friendly clothing, shoes, and accessories to the mall.

The store is moving into the old Decathlon location, which became available when the sporting goods chain shut down in 2025. After that, the unit was transformed into a pop-up roller-skating rink run by SUSO Skate Co., which opened its doors in March 2026.

The roller rink was initially planned to stay until early 2027 but closed on June 28 after the mall secured a permanent tenant for the area.

Urban Planet aims to start operations by the end of this month.

This marks Urban Planet’s second time at Mapleview; it previously had a store there before closing in late 2024. The brand’s return provides shoppers with another option for affordable fashion as the mall continues to refresh its lineup of stores.

The company also plans to hire around 25 to 30 staff members for this new location, with recruitment expected to kick off in September.

Urban Planet is part of YM Inc., based in Toronto, which is one of North America’s leading apparel retailers. It all started with the opening of a Stitches store in downtown Toronto back in 1975.

Since then, it has grown into several fashion brands including Urban Planet, Bluenotes, Stitches, Sirens, Urban Kids and Suzy Shier. YM Inc. reports that it now operates over 800 stores throughout North America under various banners.
