A company based in Brampton has announced the termination of the driver involved in a transport truck accident that collided with a dairy farm tractor near Ottawa last week.
The incident took place south of Ottawa on Mitch Owens Road last Wednesday while an Ivandale Farm worker was towing farming equipment behind their tractor.
During this time, the driver of a transport truck struck the tractor, resulting in injuries to Craig Waddell, who is a sixth-generation dairy farmer and a husband and father of three, according to the farm’s statement.
“We got off very fortunate…this time. The other 99 (per cent) of the time, this would have been an obituary post,” Waddell’s sister Claudia Pekary wrote in a post that’s been shared on social media.
“We could have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother and a farmer. It’s deeply important to us now to start to speak up about road safety around agriculture, especially around rural Ottawa.”
The farm mentioned that it shared details about the crash to increase awareness regarding road safety for agricultural equipment “for the ongoing safety and future generations.”
Brampton-based Mohanpur Transport has confirmed that one of its drivers from Brampton was operating the truck during the crash and stated that they have terminated the employee. The driver had six to seven years of trucking experience, worked for several years at the company without any previous accidents, as reported by INsauga. com.
The OPP could not be reached for comment.
