UPDATE (3 p. m.):
A resident of Brampton has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with this case.
Devon Alamina, 33, was taken into custody and charged, according to a news release from Orillia OPP.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court today (Wednesday).
“Investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area of Scout Valley Trail off Old Barrie Road as the investigation continues,” police stated.
UPDATE:
Orillia OPP officers are looking into a suspicious death that occurred in Scout Valley, a nature park located off Old Barrie Road in west Orillia.
On Tuesday, around 7:10 p. m., officers were called to Scout Valley, where one individual was found deceased.
The community can expect an increased police presence as officers carry on with their investigation.
The OPP received numerous inquiries about where the deceased person was found, their age, whether a suspect remains at large, if there are any concerns for public safety, and how long the park would stay closed.
“At this time we are unable to share any further information as it’s an active investigation,” said Ashley Taylor, regional media and communications coordinator for Central Region OPP.
The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is conducting this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, working alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

An OPP helicopter is circling over west Orillia amidst a “heavy police presence” near Scout Valley.
An advisory from OPP indicates that the trail area is closed due to multiple units and officers being present.
“The public is being asked to avoid the area at this time,” states the advisory.
