One of the most famous reggae festivals in the world is coming to Canada for the very first time, uniting members of the Marley family along with an impressive lineup of reggae, dancehall, and Caribbean artists for a huge one-day event this summer.
Kaya Fest will kick off its Canadian journey in Markham next month, marking the festival’s first return since before the pandemic hit.
Founded by nine-time Grammy winner Stephen Marley, who is Bob Marley’s son, the festival takes its name from Bob Marley’s 1978 album Kaya. However, it’s more than just about music.
The Marley family also presents this festival as a way to promote awareness regarding wellness and education through “meaningful dialogue.”
Past events have attracted large crowds in the U. S., so organizers are calling this debut in Canada “a historic moment in Canadian music culture.”
The initial announcement about this eagerly awaited return included an outstanding lineup of performers. In addition to members of the Marley family, legendary Jamaican dancehall star Shabba Ranks is also set to take the stage at this year’s event.
If that wasn’t exciting enough, on Friday the festival revealed that rap legend Busta Rhymes would be joining an already stellar roster.
This announcement also highlights local talent like Jully Black, Exco Levi, Kirk Diamond, and TOBi. Festivalgoers can look forward to appearances from Rory of Stonelove, KC Clarke, Jazzy T of Renaissance Sound, along with performances on DJ Shacia Päyne’s Constance Bubble stage featuring Nina Sky and DJ Mad Out.
You can find the complete list of artists performing on the event’s official website.
Kaya Fest is set for August 22nd from 2 p. m. to 11 p. m., with ticket prices ranging from $99.99 plus applicable taxes up to $329.99 based on your chosen experience. General admission and VIP packages are now available for purchase online.
The festival will take place at Markham Fairgrounds located at 10801 Mc Cowan Rd. in Markham, Ont.
