A 24-year-old man from Brampton has tragically died after a canoe overturned on a lake in eastern Ontario this past weekend.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call about the incident at Upper Rideau Lake shortly after 5:30 p. m. on Saturday, May 30, reporting a marine distress situation involving a capsized canoe.
Upper Rideau Lake is situated in the Rideau Lakes area of eastern Ontario, roughly 300 kilometres east of Toronto and about 90 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
Emergency responders, including officers from Leeds County OPP, Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Service, and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department, arrived at the location promptly.
According to police, the individual was found and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as a 24-year-old man from Brampton. His name has not been disclosed.
Investigators mentioned that the man was not wearing a personal flotation device during the incident.
A postmortem examination is anticipated as part of the ongoing investigation.
