The Brampton location is part of Ontario’s over $560-million investment to establish 29 HART Hubs throughout the province. The city already participates in the HART Hub system, with Nor West Community Health Centres managing a local hub at 409 George St., situated directly across from Shelter House, within an area heavily impacted by homelessness and addiction issues.
Province claims Brampton hub will centralize services
Vijay Thanigasalam, Ontario’s associate minister of mental health and addictions, mentioned that the new hub in Brampton is part of a broader initiative to create a more integrated mental health and addiction system. “We are building a stronger, more connected system of mental health and addictions care that better reflects the needs of communities and focuses on lasting recovery,” Thanigasalam said. He stated that the Brampton HART Hub will provide residents in Peel Region with services “that prioritize their path to recovery and strengthen community safety.”The Brampton hub will feature mental health services, addiction care, primary care options, vocational support, case management assistance along with basic needs like food, showers and clothing help as well as connections for supportive housing.
CMHA Peel Dufferin oversees Brampton site
The Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin is leading the operation of the Brampton HART Hub in collaboration with the Region of Peel and various local service organizations.
