The incident took place in the northbound lanes, just south of County Road 88, in Bradford West Gwillimbury; the teenagers are from Vaughan and Mississauga.

Two teens are facing multiple charges after a crash involving a Honda CR-V and a transport truck on Highway 400 this morning, located south of Barrie.

South Simcoe police arrived at the scene of a collision in the highway’s northbound lanes, south of County Road 88, in Bradford West Gwillimbury around 6 a. m. on June 3.

“As a result of the collision, the Honda CR-V became disabled, and traffic in both the northbound and southbound lanes was impacted while police worked to clear the scene,” police stated in a news release.

Working alongside Ontario Provincial Police, South Simcoe officers safely cleared the accident site and continued their investigation.

“During the investigation, witnesses reported seeing the two occupants of the Honda CR-V flee on foot toward Bradford immediately after the collision. South Simcoe police officers quickly found and arrested both individuals,” the release added.

Officers also discovered that the Honda had been reported stolen from Peel Region earlier that morning.

The investigation led to arrests for a 17-year-old from Vaughan and a 15-year-old from Mississauga. They were charged with several offenses including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of an automobile master key, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and failure to comply with release conditions.

The 17-year-old is being held for a bail hearing.

Both suspects are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and their identities cannot be disclosed.

No allegations have been proven in court yet.

Police thanked witnesses who provided information as well as motorists who experienced delays for their patience. They also appreciated OPP for helping manage and clear up the highway safely.

If anyone saw the collision or has dash-camera footage from this section of Highway 400 around that time, they’re encouraged to contact Const. Spencer Smith at [email protected] or call 905-775-3311. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers via 1-800-222-8477 or crimestopperssdm. com.
