Police believe a shooting that occurred in Barrie’s east end on Tuesday evening was targeted.
Emergency services responded around 7:45 p. m. after receiving reports of a gunshot near Johnson Street and Shanty Bay Road.

A 22-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and later airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto, where he is now reported to be in stable condition.
Following the shooting, yellow police tape marked off a parking lot at a condominium complex on Johnson Street.
One resident shared with Barrie 360 that she thought she heard fireworks. When she looked outside, she saw a man lying injured on the grass in the parking lot.

According to police reports, witnesses saw two men fleeing toward Johnson’s Beach right after the shooting. Despite extensive searches by Tactical and K9 units, officers were unable to find the suspects.
On Wednesday, officers will be canvassing the area for information and evidence.
“Barrie Police understand that any incident involving a firearm is very concerning. We share those concerns and remain focused on keeping our community safe. While this isn’t believed to be a random act, any form of violence will not be tolerated in our city,” police said in a news release.
