The Ontario Provincial Police are looking into a collision involving two cruisers that took place while officers were responding to an earlier incident that resulted in the death of one of their own on Monday.
Authorities report that Northumberland OPP officers answered a call about a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Highway 401 near Burnham Street North just after 5:30 p. m.
They confirmed that OPP Sgt. Brandon Malcolm, who was on duty during the incident, passed away at the scene.

The OPP stated that while responding to this initial accident, two of their cruisers collided with a passenger vehicle that had stopped near the scene.
Earlier reports indicated that the vehicle had pulled over to assist at the site of the motorcycle crash.
The OPP mentioned that three officers were taken to the hospital as a precaution but have since been discharged, and no other injuries were reported.
Investigations into both accidents are ongoing. The office of the chief coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are collaborating with police to look into the details surrounding the fatal incident.
