Police Seek Another Youth in Waterfront Attack Case

Barrie Police are asking for help finding a second youth who is believed to be involved in an assault at the waterfront.

Authorities say this incident relates to an alleged attack involving a 16-year-old girl around 10 p. m. on July 31 near Lakeshore Drive and Victoria Street.

A 15-year-old girl has already been charged with assault related to this case.

The assault took place around 10 p. m. Friday; police previously mentioned that the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released.

Investigators have also expressed concern about a video of the incident that is circulating on social media.

Authorities report that numerous people gathered during the assault, cheering and encouraging those involved instead of seeking help.

Police remind everyone that since those involved are underage, identifying information about any youth accused or victimized cannot be disclosed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Barrie Police have apprehended a suspect connected to the alleged assault of a 16-year-old girl along the city’s waterfront.

Authorities state that a 15-year-old girl has been charged with assault.

According to investigators, this incident occurred around 10 p. m. Friday in the vicinity of Lakeshore Drive and Victoria Street.

Police indicated that the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being released.

“Through the investigation, police learned of a video circulating on social media of the assault. Barrie Police are deeply concerned, not only by the violent nature of the assault but also by the actions of those who witnessed it. Several individuals crowded around as the assault took place, cheering, encouraging the aggressors and recording on their cell phones,” police said in a news release on Wednesday. “In moments of crisis, choosing compassion over clicks can make a critical difference.”

The investigation continues regarding any other suspects who may have been involved.

The identities of those involved are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Police remind both the public and media partners that under YCJA regulations it is illegal to publish or share identifying information about young offenders or witnesses or victims who are under age eighteen. These restrictions apply across social media platforms as well as digital publications and broadcasting outlets.

Barrie Police are looking into an alleged attack involving a sixteen-year-old girl-and they’re calling attention to people who recorded what happened while cheering instead of trying to help.

Authorities say this attack occurred around ten p. m. Friday near Lakeshore Drive and Victoria Street.

The teenager suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators aim to identify two female suspects believed to be approximately sixteen years old each.

Officials acknowledge awareness of a video depicting this incident circulating online and request individuals not repost or share it further.

The video reportedly shows youths whose identities could easily be revealed which may breach provisions set forth by Youth Criminal Justice Act guidelines.
