Stewart, Lloyd George

It is with great sadness that we share the news of George’s unexpected passing on June 13, 2026. He died peacefully with Cynthia by his side holding his hand.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Cynthia Agnes (nee Burke), his brother David (Bev) from Nanaimo BC, and he was a caring father to Sharon Philbrick (Michael) in the Cayman Islands, Jennifer Stewart (Sylvio Deluca) in Etobicoke Ontario, and Michael (Julie nee Loader) in Almonte Ontario. He was also a proud and very affectionate Grandfather to Mackenzie and Meagan Philbrick, Benjamin, Jacob and Madeline Deluca, and Matthew and Sophie Stewart.

George was predeceased by his parents Lloyd Osborne and Charlotte (Lottie) Ann (nee Bole), his youngest brother Donald Murray, and his grandson Benjamin Michael Deluca.

George attended a one-room schoolhouse SS#3 on the Third Line (Dwyer Hill Road), just down the road from the family farm, before graduating from Arnprior and District High School.

He had a long and successful career with the federal Government of Canada, starting at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans before moving to External Affairs (now Global Affairs Canada). He represented Canada at the High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica from 1965 to 1968 (where he met his wife), then at Canada House in London, England from 1968 to 1971 before returning to Ottawa at External Affairs HQ.

George retired in 1996 to focus on his passion for family history and genealogy. He volunteered at the Lanark County Genealogical Society and wrote books about family history as well as rural schools in Pakenham Township.

George was also the church organist and Choir Director at Almonte Presbyterian Church where he served on Session as an Elder.

Above all else, George was devoted to his family. He cherished family gatherings along with music, travel, gardening, and reading.

He will be greatly missed by cousins from the extended Stewart family along with sister-in-law, nephew, niece, friends, and former neighbors in Almonte. His warmth, kindness, gentle humor and infectious smile will always be remembered.

We would like to express our gratitude to Dr Ray, Lisa, Meg, Sam, Julie and all of the compassionate staff at Orchardview who supported him over these past years.

Rest in Peace Dad. Our love for you will last forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Society or the Almonte General Hospital Fairview Manor Foundation.
