Police in Mississauga and Brampton have charged an Ontario man with offences related to child luring and claim he pretended to be an underage boy while exploiting his victims.
The investigation by Peel Regional Police began in December when officers started looking into a person who allegedly used various social media platforms to lure minors younger than 16.
Authorities say the man posed as a youth online to acquire explicit images, which he then used to blackmail victims for sexual favors.
Sugin Mohanathas from Markham has been arrested and is facing charges including luring a child under 18, luring a child under 16, providing sexually explicit material to someone under 16, extortion, and possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
During the online interactions with his victims, investigators say the accused went by the name Keshawn and also used the usernames nicovalentino23 on Snapchat and Forgiveme1236 on Instagram.
Police suspect there may be more victims out there and are urging anyone who thinks they might have been affected to reach out.
