Viktoria “Vicky” Maurus

Viktoria Maurus was born on August 19, 1962, in Boehen, Germany. She passed away on January 9, 2026, after a brief fight with cancer. Her parents were Ludwig and Annamarie Maurus. She was the second oldest in a family of seven. Vicky attended school and grew up in the Boehen community. She pursued training in Home Economics at a technical school. Being the second eldest, she often took care of her younger siblings while their parents worked on the farm. Even though she grew up on a dairy farm, she never learned how to milk a cow.

After finishing her training, Vicky decided to travel because she wanted to explore more of the world. She hoped to work in Africa as a development aid worker but wasn’t sure if she could be away from home for two years. So, she thought a shorter commitment would be better as a trial. She found an opportunity working on a family farm in Saskatchewan. It was quite challenging for Vicky to be so far from home and speak English every day. During her three-month stay, she formed a close bond with the Boden family and by the end of her time there, she was already planning another visit.

After returning to Germany, in the fall of 1985, Vicky signed a two-year contract in Tanzania where she mainly assisted in the kitchen. When her first contract ended and she came back to Germany, she visited us again in Canada for another three-month stay. The mission in Africa asked her to come back since they needed someone to fill in for an ill sister. In 1987, Vicky returned to Tanzania for another eighteen months where she managed the kitchen preparing meals for up to 200 people daily.

In the early 1990s, Vicky visited Canada multiple times, each trip taking her to different areas across the country. She had met someone special and wanted him to see some parts of Canada that meant so much to her. On April 13, 1996, Vicky married Andreas Denz and they settled down in Buchloe, Germany. During those years, Vicky worked at a Sheltered Workshop helping handicapped and disabled individuals with various crafts and handiwork.

Vicky and Andreas often talked about moving to Canada together. Finally, in 2010 they made that leap and settled into Warman where they bought their new home. Over time, Vicky held various jobs including working at Cosmo workshop as well as being a job coach for handicapped teenagers before applying for contract roles through the school board starting off as an EA on their substitute list. From 2018-2021 she had a permanent position with Holy Trinity Catholic School located in Warman before moving over last year where she had been employed as an EA at Ecole Holy Mary Catholic School since then (2022). Vicky truly enjoyed working with her students who got really attached to her.

Vicky had many hobbies that kept her busy outside of work hours too! Her dedication towards developing her backyard garden was impressive; especially when it came down watering everything regularly! She planted all sorts of vegetables but especially loved growing tomatoes and peppers along with beautiful lilies & roses plus numerous hanging flowerpots! To help make this happen Andreas built greenhouses along with supports & trellises!

Baking was also one of Vicky’s passions; she’d often preserve produce too! Amongst other treats she’d create wonderful German Tortes! Moreover, she supported local German communities while being part of something called “Kultur Garten” based out Saskatoon while assisting them whenever fundraisers happened!

Vicky is survived by Andreas Denz whom she’s been married almost thirty years now along with many relatives & friends still residing back home across Germany. Meanwhile she’ll definitely be missed greatly here among all friends made during time spent living within Canada!

The funeral arrangements will be handled by Martens Funeral Home located at Warman. The service itself takes place January twenty-fourth, two thousand twenty-six starting precisely at one o’clock over at St Anne’s Catholic Church situated at217 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon. The ceremony will stream live via parish website https://saintannes. ca/saint-annes-parish-online/  Following this ceremony, a small lunch shall follow thereafter.

Please note that flowers aren’t requested during this funeral instead memorial donations should ideally go towards monastery located within Africa namely Missionary Benedictines based out Peramiho, Tanzania Donations accepted either through cheque, cash or e-transfer directed straight towards Andreas who’ll coordinate things personally ensuring tax receipts are issued accordingly. Martens Warman Funeral Home is honored taking care along with arrangements regarding Mrs. Maurus’ services.
