Authorities believe fireworks were likely the cause of a weapons investigation that brought a large police presence to a housing complex in south London on Wednesday morning.

They have since reopened roads and removed lockdown orders at local schools after responding to reports of possible gunfire in the 100-block of Baseline Road.

London police reported that officers arrived shortly after 8:10 a. m.

“Out of an abundance of caution, officers took immediate steps to ensure public safety, including temporarily closing nearby roads and placing area schools into a hold and secure,” police spokesperson Sgt. Sandasha Bough said in a statement.

An individual from a residence in the vicinity was detained but was later released without any charges. No injuries have been reported, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

According to police, a search conducted at an area home revealed evidence indicating that fireworks were responsible for the sounds heard.

Baseline Road had been closed between West Street and Mc Gregor Avenue, with many police officers around a building at 122 Baseline Rd.

Police confirmed that all affected roads have now reopened and lockdowns at nearby schools have been lifted.
