Some bands are just bands, while others become legendary. Tom Lavin & The Legendary Powder Blues definitely fall into the latter category, and this June they’re bringing their fantastic mix of blues, swing, jazz, rock and roll, and R& B to two top venues in Ontario for shows that promise to be highlights of the summer. On June 24, they’ll perform at Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto, followed by a show on June 26 at Aeolian Hall in London, Ontario. Both performances kick off at 7:30 pm. Tickets for these events are available now at powderblues. net/tour.

For over forty years, Powder Blues has been Canada’s leading blues band-not because of industry connections but due to the undeniable power of their music. Their journey is one for the books. When major labels turned down their debut album ‘Uncut,’ claiming there was no audience for blues music, the band took matters into their own hands and went directly to radio stations. Listeners quickly started calling in to ask about them after hearing their tracks. Just weeks later, they sold 30,000 copies and those same labels came knocking on their door. To date, Powder Blues has moved over a million records globally-a testament to their impact that only great music can achieve.

The band has played at prestigious stages and festivals that read like a who’s who of music history. They’ve headlined the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, won the Blues Foundation Award in Memphis, Tennessee, received a Juno Award for Best New Band, and toured across both the U. S. and Europe with an incredible lineup of legends such as Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, B. B. King, James Brown, Albert Collins, James Cotton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

At the core of it all is Tom Lavin-an accomplished guitarist from Vancouver who founded Powder Blues from day one. Growing up in a city known for its electric blues scene gave him a unique advantage as he created his own sound while writing some of the band’s most recognized songs like ‘Doin’ It Right (On the Wrong Side of Town)’ and ‘Boppin’ With the Blues.’ His reach extends well beyond just Powder Blues; he holds gold and platinum records from his work with artists like Prism, April Wine, Long John Baldry , Amos Garrett , and many others. The BCMIA has honored him as Guitarist , Singer , Songwriter , and Producer of the Year while also recognizing him with an American W. C. Handy Award alongside his Juno-a sign of respect that crosses borders.

2026 will mark an amazing 48th anniversary for this band-a feat worth celebrating for any musical group but especially impressive considering they’ve never stopped touring or sharing joy through every performance since day one. A concert by Powder Blues offers something special where audiences spanning ages seven to seventy gather together on dance floors united by irresistible tunes. With over a dozen CD titles plus a DVD still selling around world-wide , Tom Lavin & The Legendary Powder Blues stand out as some our country’s longest-running beloved musical ambassadors.
