Ontario Provincial Police have located the body of a rafter who had been missing for about two weeks in Lake Huron, confirming that the individual was a 22-year-old from Nepal, officials reported on Wednesday.
This announcement concludes an extensive search for the missing rafter, whose body was discovered in the water along the shore near Port Franks on May 29, according to police.
The search started on May 18 when five individuals were seen offshore close to Pinery Provincial Park, appearing to be in trouble while on a raft.
At that time, authorities said two people were able to swim back to safety, while two others returned to the raft and one person remained unaccounted for.
Search operations began immediately, with the OPP and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre combing through the water.
Police expressed gratitude towards community members for their support throughout this challenging search.
“The Lambton OPP recognizes the impact this incident has had on the individuals involved, their loved ones, first responders, and the broader community,” police stated in a message.
