Dr. John Paul O’Donoghue

With deep sadness, the family of John Paul O’Donoghue shares the news of his unexpected passing on Saturday, May 2nd 2026.
He was a loving husband to Sheila (Bordin) and a proud father to Sean and Siobhan. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Etta O’Donoghue. He was a dear brother to Frank (Audrey) O’Donoghue from Dublin, Ireland, Etta (Christy) Monahan also from Dublin, and Irene (the late John) Robinson of Regina, Saskatchewan. He was an adored son-in-law to the late Reno and Isabel Bordin of Sault Ste Marie and a cherished brother-in-law to Susan (Dino) Pozzebon from London, Ontario, Richard (Tee) Bordin from Sault Ste Marie, and Terry (Mandy) Bordin from Sault Ste Marie. His many nieces and nephews in Ireland and Canada will miss him greatly.
Paul was born in Dublin, Ireland before moving to Quebec when he was just five years old. After living in several places across Canada, he finally settled in Regina to pursue medicine like his brother. Graduating from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine in 1987, he began working as a Nuclear Medicine Physician in 1994. While practicing in London, Ontario he met his wonderful wife Sheila. They moved to Windsor in 1999 with their one-year-old son Sean and welcomed their daughter Siobhan in 2003, making it their home.
A dedicated Detroit Lions fan with season tickets for many years, Paul loved taking family and friends to games where they would cheer for the Honolulu Blue together. Having spent part of his childhood in Montreal made him a loyal Canadiens fan too. Like his brother, he had a strong passion for racing-especially Formula One-and attended many Grand Prix events over the years. An avid reader with an impressive book collection that amazed visitors at their home; Paul’s knowledge spanned various subjects which made him both handy around the house and a tough opponent at board games. You could always find him with a cup of tea nearby.
During his nearly three decades at Windsor Regional Hospital, Paul positively influenced many lives. He volunteered extensively on various committees always prioritizing the community over himself. However much he contributed to those around him paled compared to the joy his family brought him. A truly proud father who loved creating special moments with Sheila and their kids; Paul cherished time spent with close friends as well. His strong faith guided how he lived each day as well as shaped who he was as a person. Those who knew him will deeply miss his sharp humor, intelligence, kindness, compassion, and captivating storytelling.
Visiting hours will be held at the WINDSOR CHAPEL (Banwell Chapel), located at 11677 Tecumseh Rd E (519)-253-7235 on Friday May 8th 2026 from 2 to 5pm and again from 7 to 9pm. The visitation will continue on Saturday May 9th at St. Anne Church starting at 10:30am until the funeral mass begins at 11:30am.
