November 3, 1934 – May 16, 2026
William Dackiw, aged 91, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Born on November 3, 1934, to Stefan and Mary Dackiw in Fort William, Ontario, he attended local schools before working for various industries. In 1953, he joined CNR where he served as a car control worker, senior machine operator, and data supervisor before retiring in August of 1990 after dedicating 37 years to the company.
Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid trapper for over five decades. He owned two cabins in the Graham area where he spent countless hours fishing and hunting. A true handyman, he enjoyed tackling home repairs and was also a passionate gardener. William held strong beliefs and took pride in his home and cabins; he was also an excellent cook who prepared many delicious barbecues, homemade soups, and especially Chinese dishes that were savored over the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Bernice (2020); step-son Lorne Chabot (2023); and his parents Mary (1983) and Stefan (1983).
A service to celebrate Mr. Dackiw’s life will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 a. m. at EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL located at 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Please be aware that due to construction work there is limited parking available in our upper (Waverley St.) lot; however our lower (Park St.) lot is fully accessible via Court St., with stair access leading to our facilities.
