Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking into a deadly car accident that took place Wednesday night on Highway 406 in St. Catharines, Ont.
According to OPP, one individual was thrown from the vehicle and was later hit by another car traveling in the southbound lanes near the third line.
Police report that three young people aged 18, 19, and 20 were in the car around 8:30 p. m., when the 19-year-old driver lost control while making a turn on Highway 406.
In a social media update, Const. Kerry Schmidt mentioned that the vehicle ended up in a ditch and rolled over.
An 18-year-old passenger from Thorold, Ont., was ejected from the vehicle and subsequently struck by another passing car. Sadly, she was declared dead at the scene.
The other two passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Authorities noted that road conditions were wet and covered with snow, making them less than ideal at the time of the incident.
Schmidt stated that they will also be looking into whether seatbelts were used during the crash.
All lanes have since been reopened for traffic.
