Authorities are investigating a suspicious house fire that broke out overnight on Hamilton Mountain.
The blaze occurred at the residence of Rocco Luppino, who is associated with organized crime.
Fire crews from the Hamilton Fire Department were dispatched to 52 Mountain Brow Blvd. shortly after 1:30 a. m., discovering a “well-involved” fire in the kitchen area of the one-and-a-half storey home.
In 2019, Luppino’s son Cece was fatally shot at the neighboring property, which he also owned.
According to the fire department, responders encountered thick smoke and flames upon arrival, locating an intense fire in the kitchen area.
The flames spread through walls and ceilings to reach the second floor and attic, eventually breaking through the roof.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries. Neighbors informed CHCH News that the house had been empty for some time but that Luppino would check on it occasionally.
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to control the fire, although damages are estimated to be around $1.5 million.
The house was unoccupied during the incident, and investigators are still determining what caused the fire.
Hamilton’s fire chief has stated that they’ve contacted the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office for further investigation.
