Eastern Ontario and parts of western Quebec are bracing for a cold Monday night.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow advisory for frost overnight that will last into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This advisory affects most communities along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, including Kingston, Ont., extending north to Ottawa-Gatineau and western Quebec.

Temperatures could dip to zero degrees, with areas of frost also anticipated, according to the agency’s report.

Environment Canada suggests covering plants, especially in areas prone to frost, as trees and crops may suffer damage.

The temperatures will rise again on Tuesday across the impacted region, reaching highs around 14 C, based on the 3 p. m. forecast on Monday.

The coldest May 11 in Ottawa was recorded back in 2010 when temperatures dropped to -4.5 C, as per CBC’s climate dashboard.
