A young boy is recovering from minor injuries after being hit by a car while walking to school in Whitby.

It happened Friday morning around 8:30 in the Civic Centre Drive and Dryden Boulevard area, east of Brock Street.

Durham police say the child between five and ten-years-old was struck in the intersection.

The boy was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, but his injuries are considered minor.

The driver stayed at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
