York Regional Police (YRP) responded to a school in Markham on Friday morning due to a reported “swatting call,” according to officials.

Officers arrived at the school near Fonda Road and Denison Street at 8:25 a. m., just as classes were beginning, and determined there were no safety concerns.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” police stated in a social media update.

Swatting typically involves making a false 911 call to report an emergency that isn’t real.

The YRP believes the call originated from within the area, and they have identified the caller.

Police mentioned it’s too early to discuss any possible charges.
