The Chatham Maroons have secured the top seed as the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs are about to begin.
The team clinched first place in the Western Conference with a 3-2 victory over the Stratford Warriors at home on Sunday.
Jaxon Priddle and Ewan Mc Chesney were the goal scorers for the Maroons. Priddle’s 20th goal was assisted by Trevor Zanutto and Aydan Doyle, while Boris Genov and Priddle provided assists on Mc Chesney’s 21st goal.
The match ended in a shootout, where Santiago Jimenes scored the game-winner in the 10th round.
Samuel Di Blasi recorded 43 saves for his 23rd win of the season, ranking him second in the GOHL, just behind Brandon Balcar from the Cambridge Redhawks.
Zanutto finished the regular season as the league’s top scorer with 35 goals, four ahead of second place. He also tied for 12th in overall league scoring.
Doyle’s 40 assists placed him eighth in league rankings. Notably, he was the only defenseman to make it into the top ten for assists and finished second among defensemen in scoring, just three points shy of Alexander Forrest from the Redhawks.
The Maroons head into playoffs as one of the hottest teams around. They’ve won their last 11 games, with their last loss occurring on January 23 against the St. Thomas Stars.
The Stars will be up against the Maroons in round one. Each team managed to win twice against each other during regular season play.
As of now, GOHL has yet to announce playoff schedules.
