MPP Lee Fairclough (Etobicoke-Lakeshore) has officially joined the contest for Ontario Liberal Party leader, presenting a platform aimed at addressing the province’s healthcare issues and enhancing transparency in government decisions.

Fairclough, who has worked as a hospital executive and health-system strategist, revealed her candidacy under the slogan “Fighting for a Better Ontario.” Her campaign focuses on rebuilding public trust and improving healthcare access throughout the province.

She plans to prioritize cutting down wait times and enhancing mental health and addiction services for youth, while also expanding home care and health services in rural areas. Fairclough is determined to “fight for democracy” by reinstating local decision-making power and reducing what she describes as the “concentration of power in the Premier’s Office.”

She suggests repealing Bill 97, claiming that Ontario’s freedom-of-information laws should empower citizens rather than protect governmental secrecy.

“As mother of two teenage sons and a daughter of aging parents, I’m deeply committed to fixing the damage that’s been done in this province,” said Fairclough. “Together, we can do better in Ontario.”

Fairclough won the Etobicoke-Lakeshore seat in the 2025 provincial election, defeating Christine Hogarth, the incumbent Progressive Conservative candidate, in what analysts called one of the most competitive races in the GTA.

Prior to entering politics, Fairclough held senior roles within Ontario’s healthcare system, including leadership positions at Trillium Health Partners and Health Quality Ontario. She was also formerly president of St. Mary’s General Hospital (now WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd).
