The jobless rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region went down by 0.1 percentage points in April.

This information comes from the latest employment statistics released by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. The minor drop brings the unemployment rate in the area to 5.2 percent, maintaining its position as having the lowest jobless rate in Ontario for the fourth month in a row.

Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate held steady last month at 7.5 percent, with both figures being unadjusted for seasonal changes. Employment within the region fell by 2,400 jobs in April, including a decline of 900 full-time positions and a loss of 1,600 part-time roles.

According to data from the labour planning board, the overall population aged 15 and older in the region grew by 400 people, while the labor force decreased by 2,700 individuals. Additionally, there was an increase of 3,100 people not participating in the labor force during April.

Current job opportunities for Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth regions have risen over time since the pandemic began and can be accessed at www. connect2JOBS. ca. Right now, there are more than 1,500 job postings available.

“We continue to monitor the local workforce as participation rates in the region continue to decline,” shared Dana Soucie, Chief Executive Officer for the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. “Collaborations and innovative programs remain critical as we move forward to address our unique rural workforce needs.”
