United Way Oxford gathered 1,393 boxes of menstrual hygiene products along with $2,120 in cash donations.

OXFORD – United Way Oxford has announced the final results of its Period Promise Campaign.

Throughout February, all Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Oxford County accepted donations of menstrual hygiene products. Networking events took place in Woodstock, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Macy Le Conte, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, expressed their satisfaction with the outcome.

“We collected 1,393 boxes of product and received $2,120 in monetary donations. This is lower than last year but still significant as it will greatly benefit all the agencies we partner with.”

She believes the decrease in donations is due to the rising costs of menstrual hygiene products, highlighting how crucial this campaign really is.

“People went out to buy products for donation and were surprised by how pricey everything has become. This even made some reconsider donating because they can’t afford it right now. If individuals are thinking like that, you can imagine how much more urgent the need is for these agencies reaching out for supplies.”

Le Conte extended her gratitude to Montana’s BBQ & Bar in Woodstock, Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse in Tillsonburg, and Scotch & Ponder in Ingersoll for hosting last week’s networking events which saw good attendance. She also thanked everyone who contributed to this cause.

You can support the Period Promise campaign at any time through the United Way Oxford website online here.

The Period Promise campaign was previously called Tampon Tuesday. Last year, United Way changed its name to emphasize a commitment to tackling this issue throughout the entire year rather than just one day annually.
