The Kitchener Rangers are set to face the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League championship series, which kicks off on Wednesday night.
The Colts pushed through their playoff series against the Brantford Bulldogs to seven games, securing a 5-0 victory on Monday night to claim the Bobby Orr Trophy and advance to the final round.
Kitchener topped the western conference during the regular season, while Barrie finished second in the eastern conference behind Brantford.
Barrie began their playoff journey against the Niagara Ice Dogs, winning that series in five games. They then moved on to face the Bulldogs after defeating the Ottawa 67’s, also in five games.
The Colts last claimed eastern conference champion status in 2013.
The Kitchener Rangers swept past the Saginaw Spirit in four games and followed that up by beating the Soo Greyhounds in five games before taking on the Windsor Spitfires.
<p The series against Windsor also lasted five games. The Rangers clinched it with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win against the Spitfires, earning them the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as western conference champions – a title they haven't held since 2008.
<p Game one of this best-of-seven championship series for the J. Ross Robertson Cup will take place Wednesday night in Kitchener.
