The strong connection between Tafelmusik and New York’s famous Juilliard School is the inspiration for this celebration of the theatrical and remarkable music of Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Violinist Robert Mealy, who leads Juilliard’s esteemed Historical Performance program and directs the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, takes charge of this program that combines music and dance from Rameau’s amazing operas. Our journey into the beauty of the French baroque features period ensemble Juilliard415, performing alongside Tafelmusik in a pas de deux that connects generations of historically informed knowledge.
Rameau created some of the most lively dance music before Stravinsky, with rhythms so striking that his own dancers praised him for teaching them how to dance. His music comes alive through choreographies by celebrated Baroque dancer Caroline Copeland, who is partnered with Julian Donahue.
No matter if you’re a baroque expert or just starting out, this program is bound to leave you enchanted.
