Another night, another tow truck set on fire in Brampton.
According to police, a tow truck was intentionally ignited in the driveway of a residence early today (April 30), marking the latest incident in a series of events believed to stem from rising tensions within the towing industry.
The blaze started just before 3 a. m. on Kingknoll Drive, close to Mc Laughlin Road South and Steeles Avenue West.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the truck suffered significant damage.
Authorities haven’t provided any information about suspects. In many cases, however, descriptions have been limited to people dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks-details that haven’t helped much with investigations.
This latest event follows several similar fires. On Tuesday, police responded to a tow truck fire on Ascot Road in Brampton, while on April 21, four separate tow truck fires at three locations around the city were confirmed as arson.

Additional incidents have also occurred in nearby areas, including Mississauga earlier this month, Burlington back in February, and multiple cases reported in Brampton during January.
While Peel Regional Police haven’t publicly acknowledged a link to organized turf battles, sources suggest that investigators are looking into whether these fires are connected to ongoing disputes between competing towing companies.
“It shouldn’t come as a surprise what is going on,” said a source familiar with the situation when speaking with INsauga. com. “Towing companies have been clashing for years over who operates where. But now there are criminal elements involved trying to push rivals out. Setting trucks ablaze sends a message-keep operating and your vehicle could end up destroyed.”
The violence has gone beyond arson. In recent months, there have been reports of gunfire targeting businesses, attacks on drivers, and even murders linked to this industry. Incidents have surfaced across Peel, York, Durham, Halton regions as well as Toronto.
Police have initiated several major investigations aimed at addressing these crimes.
In 2024, Peel Regional Police’s Project Outsource focused on dismantling a criminal network involved in extortion and staged collisions tied to the towing business in Brampton. Nineteen individuals were arrested and millions of dollars worth of assets were seized.
Previously, an investigation by Toronto Police known as Project Yankee led to multiple arrests-including suspects facing murder charges-as part of efforts by criminal groups aiming for control over the towing sector through violent means.
More recently , Peel police confiscated tow trucks and arrested eighteen people last June during an extortion investigation. In December , three individuals were taken into custody regarding a shooting related to tow trucks occurring in Brampton. p>
