RICHMOND HILL – Work has started on the Carefirst Campus of Care York Region, a new long-term care home with 124 beds in Richmond Hill.
This project is funded through the new Capital Funding Program (CFP).
“Our government is fixing long-term care by getting shovels in the ground and ensuring residents can get care where and when they need it,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today’s announcement is great news for Richmond Hill and will ensure that 124 people will get the care they need in modern, safe homes.”
The Carefirst Campus of Care York Region will be a not-for-profit facility featuring a medical center on the ground floor, part of a larger campus designed for easy access to health services for residents. The home will include amenities such as a café-tuck shop, hair salon, chapel, secure outdoor garden, and walking paths.
The design focuses on spacious common areas for residents and includes air conditioning throughout. There are four ‘Resident Home Areas’ designed to create more intimate living spaces for up to 31 residents each, featuring dining areas, activity zones, lounges, and bedrooms. The Carefirst Campus of Care York Region plans to welcome its first residents in 2027.
This initiative is part of Ontario’s ongoing effort to fulfill its promise of building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
