Emotions ran high and the stakes intensified in the East as the Cleveland Cavaliers narrowly defeated the Toronto Raptors 125-120 in a hard-fought Game 5, taking a 3-2 lead in their series. Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons managed to keep their season alive with a 116-109 victory over the Orlando Magic. With both series now at 3-2, all eyes are on Game 6.

RJ Barrett’s remarks after the game perfectly captured the atmosphere following an intense Game 5, where Cleveland edged Toronto to take a crucial series lead.

“I take everything as disrespect. Don’t walk over to our bench and pick the ball up. James Harden is a guy I have tremendous respect for, but who cares right now.”

The tension boiled over late in the fourth quarter when Harden picked up a loose ball near Toronto’s bench after a timeout. Barrett attempted to grab it back from him, leading to Harden yanking it away and pushing Barrett. This sparked a brief altercation as players, coaches, and security rushed in. No technical fouls were handed out, but this moment illustrated just how heated this series has become.

This intensity had been brewing all night long. Earlier in the third quarter, there was another clash between Harden and Scottie Barnes during a jump ball that required some cooling off time after neither wanted to give an inch.

Cleveland did enough to regain control of their matchup. Both Harden and Evan Mobley scored 23 points each while Dennis Schröder made an impact off the bench with 19 points in just 21 minutes.

Barrett led Toronto with impressive stats-25 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists-but it wasn’t enough for them to stop Cleveland from coming closer to advancing into the semi-finals.

Now leading at 3-2, Cleveland heads back to Toronto riding high on momentum; however, home court advantage has defined this series so far. The Cavaliers dominated their first two games at home while Toronto bounced back with two victories of their own on their turf; furthermore, both of these recent matchups were decided by only nine total points combined.

The stage is set perfectly for Game 6; tensions are high and there’s no love lost between these teams.
