UPDATE | Police have identified the two victims as 41-year-old Lisa Marie Hartwick and 44-year-old Gregory James Bennett.

Two individuals have died after a house fire that authorities are treating as suspicious in Renfrew, Ont., according to police.

Officers along with local firefighters responded to the residence on Fortington Street around 1 p. m. on Monday, as stated in a release from the Ontario Provincial Police Tuesday afternoon.

Once the flames were extinguished, law enforcement discovered two bodies inside.

The fire has been classified as suspicious by investigators, prompting the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office to join in on the investigation.

The identities of the victims had not been disclosed at that time. Autopsies are set for Wednesday at The Ottawa Hospital’s General campus, OPP reported.

As of 4 p. m. Tuesday, police remained at the location, and a section of Fortington Street was still closed off.

Renfrew is located about 100 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.
