A man has lost his life, and two police officers are hospitalized following two separate accidents that led to part of a major Ontario highway being shut down.
The OPP Highway Safety Division stated that the first incident took place shortly before 3 a. m. on Sunday on Highway 401 close to Brock Road in Pickering.
A car and a pickup truck were involved in this crash, and a 38-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 are closed at Brock Road while investigations are ongoing.
There was also another crash nearby just before 4:30 a. m., as reported by police.
This “secondary collision” involved a police cruiser and another passenger vehicle, resulting in injuries to two officers. Fortunately, their injuries are serious but not life-threatening or likely to cause long-term effects.
Highway 401 is additionally closed at Whites Road, with authorities advising drivers to steer clear of the area and seek alternative routes whenever possible.
