A Toronto police officer has been charged by Ontario’s police oversight agency following a crash in Whitby, Ont., last year.
The Special Investigations Unit reported that on the night of June 25, 2024, officers from Toronto were looking for a man in Whitby.
The agency states that the man was found riding a scooter when he was hit by an unmarked vehicle from the Toronto Police Service in a Canadian Tire parking lot.
An 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital after the incident.
Following the SIU inquiry, Det. Const. Joshua Baksh faces one charge of dangerous driving and another for assault with a weapon.
The agency mentioned that Baksh must appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in March and will not provide any further comments on the investigation while it is ongoing in court.
