A St. Catharines man, aged 36, has been charged with second-degree murder after a man he reportedly assaulted died, police say.

The accused was initially arrested and charged with assault and for not complying with his probation after an incident in the Queenston area of St. Catharines on Nov. 2, according to a statement from Niagara Regional Police Service released Wednesday.

The victim, who was 54 years old, was hospitalized with serious injuries and sadly passed away on Dec. 15.

The suspect has remained in custody since November, and on Wednesday law enforcement officials announced the murder charge against him.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have information regarding this case to reach out to them.
