Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County responded shortly after 10 p. m. on Saturday, Apr. 25, 2026, to reports of a capsized boat north of Grenadier Island.

The police stated that a 15-foot aluminum boat carrying several people overturned, resulting in one person being unaccounted for.

According to OPP, the Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service later found an unresponsive individual in the water.

Authorities reported that a 41-year-old man from Ottawa was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was subsequently pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing with help from the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team.

Police are urging anyone with information to reach out to the Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
