A man from Mississauga, who was wanted by police under a Canada-wide warrant for a murder earlier this year, has been captured in northeastern Ontario.
On Monday, York Regional Police announced that Jacob Wallace, 19, was taken into custody this past Thursday in Moosonee, located about 1,000 kilometres north of the Greater Toronto Area.
He faces charges of first-degree murder related to the killing of Sergio Lopes, 65, from Richmond Hill. Lopes was shot outside a plaza near Winges Road and Rowntree Dairy Road in Vaughan around 1 p. m., according to police reports.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the victim in front of a business suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds.” The man was quickly transported to hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries.

The James Bay detachment of Ontario Provincial Police tracked down and arrested Wallace on March 5, as stated by York police in a news release.
Authorities mentioned that members of the public also played a role in locating the fugitive, one of two suspects involved in the homicide.
Isaiah Thomas Badger, another suspect aged 19 from Edmonton, is still at large and is also wanted under a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder concerning Lopes’ death. Investigators are actively seeking him.
Police describe Badger as “armed and dangerous.” Anyone who sees him should not approach but should contact law enforcement immediately instead.
If you have any information regarding this case, you’re encouraged to reach out to the York Regional Police homicide squad at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865 or email [email protected]. You can also provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
In addition to this case, Badger is wanted by Toronto Police related to the Feb. 7 murder of Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, aged 37 from Brampton. He lost his life in the parking lot of Woodbine Mall situated at Rexdale Boulevard and Highway 27.
Both York and Toronto police have previously indicated that both victims were targeted; however, no connection or motive between these two murders has been established yet.
