Provincial police report that one person has died following a boat capsizing in the St. Lawrence River on Saturday night.

According to OPP, several people were aboard when the 15-foot aluminum boat overturned.

Authorities indicated that one person was initially unaccounted for, and firefighters later discovered a 41-year-old resident of Ottawa unresponsive in the water.

The OPP stated that the individual passed away at the hospital.

Police mentioned that the incident took place just north of Grenadier Island in Leeds and the Thousand Islands township, approximately 50 kilometers downstream from Kingston, Ont.

The investigation by OPP is ongoing.
