A family from Ahmedgarh is in mourning after learning about the unexpected and puzzling death of their only daughter, Pratibha Gupta (29), who was living in Brampton, Canada.
Rakesh Kumar Sharma, a social activist from Ahmedgarh, mentioned that Sanjiv Kumar Jindal and his wife Indu Jindal are still trying to understand how they lost their daughter.
Her body was discovered near the staircase of her rented home, apparently without any visible injuries. Even though some members of the landlord’s family were present at the house, she did not receive any assistance as the owner was away in the United States.

After multiple calls to Pratibha went unanswered, her parents contacted her employer, who then alerted Canadian police regarding the situation.
The police have yet to reach a conclusion; however, the grieving family reported that some officers had asked about Pratibha’s daily routine and requested other pertinent details.
“Both Sanjiv and Indu were feeling good during Saturday afternoon since Pratibha sounded happy during a regular phone call before she went to bed.
They became worried when their evening call didn’t get answered,” Sharma said, emphasizing that subsequent inquiries turned tragic for the family.
The young woman had moved to Canada on a work permit 3.5 years ago and was employed at a private transport company in Brampton. She held an M. Sc. in Mathematics and worked as a teacher before relocating abroad.
The family is currently arranging for their deceased daughter’s return to Punjab.
Pratibha had not yet received her PR status in Canada.
The Brampton police have begun investigating the events leading up to Pratibha’s death. They are analyzing CCTV footage and taking statements from witnesses. The exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
Fatehgarh Sahib MP Amar Singh Boparai stated he has already started seeking help from the Ministry of External Affairs to speed up bringing Pratibha’s body back to Punjab.
