Police report that a man from Oshawa, Ont., who is suspected of being responsible for a deadly arson in February was apprehended last week while attempting to ignite another home fire.
Durham Region police state that the 23-year-old faces multiple charges, including manslaughter and two counts of arson.
The authorities noted he was already on probation and prohibited from possessing any incendiary devices.
Officers found him using a makeshift ignition tool to start a fire at a residence in Courtice, Ont., on April 1.
No one inside the house was injured during that incident, but investigators later connected him to the earlier fatal fire in the same area.
On February 22, emergency responders arrived at a home ablaze near Nash and Varcoe roads and discovered 78-year-old Gerald Schad deceased inside.
