The winners of an incredible $80 million lottery jackpot in Canada have finally been disclosed.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation shared the news in a press release, announcing that London residents Greg S. and Krys P. hit the huge prize from the Dec. 30 Lotto Max draw.
These two friends also opted for the Lotto Max combination play feature, which led to a second-prize win on the same ticket amounting to $403,285.40.
This means they will split a grand total of $80,403,285.40 – making it the largest lottery payout ever recorded in Canada.
Greg and Krys have known each other for decades.

The duo moved to Canada from Europe during the 1990s and first met in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class.
They’ve been playing the lottery together for several years, only purchasing tickets when jackpots reach significant amounts. They usually rely on quick pick numbers and an eight-number combination play method.
Greg mentioned that he realized they had won after checking the numbers one by one.
“One-by-one, I circled my numbers to see if they matched the winning numbers – until I realized I circled them all,” he said.
He then told his wife that he thought they might have won something big.
“Then I checked using the OLG app because I didn’t know how much we won,” Greg explained.
“I saw the words ‘big winner’ and the number 80 but I didn’t believe it at first. It was unbelievable. I checked it again and I saw the eight, the zeros and the commas and I knew it was $80 million.”
After that, Greg’s wife called Krys to share the news.
“It was morning when Greg’s wife called to tell me what happened – I had just woken up,” Krys recalled.
“She asked me if I’d checked our ticket yet. I looked at it with my wife and found out we matched all the numbers.”
Krys said he felt “very happy, and very nervous too.”
Krys then went over to Greg’s house so they could check their ticket together and celebrate with a handshake.
“He is always the one who takes time to go buy our tickets,” Krys remarked.
‘It’s surreal’
Greg recently retired from his manufacturing job where he hadn’t missed a day of work in 28 years.
With more free time now due to their massive win, he’s figuring out what steps to take next.
“It’s not easy deciding what to do right now,” he stated.
“We need some more time…. It’s surreal. I’ve played for years but you never expect something like this.”
Apart from getting over his initial shock, Greg has started planning ahead by meeting with a financial advisor.
Though he’s still sorting out exactly what his plans are, he did mention intentions like buying a new home, spending quality time with family, and traveling more often.
“I’d love to visit Japan, New Zealand and Australia.”
Krys expressed that his “life will definitely change,” but aims to maintain as normal a lifestyle as possible moving forward.
