Over 50 students from Simcoe County are getting ready to compete at the provincial level as members of Team SCDSB in the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition.
The Simcoe County District School Board shared that 52 high school students from 10 different schools have qualified for this annual event, scheduled for May 4th and 5th. The competition highlights skilled trades and technology careers, uniting thousands of students from all over Ontario to compete in various categories.
Students secured their places after taking part in regional qualifiers throughout March. Team SCDSB will showcase talent across a variety of fields, including carpentry, culinary arts, robotics, graphic design, automotive trades, and more.
According to organizers, support for participation comes from dedicated teachers and programs like the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), which provide hands-on experience and help students prepare for careers in skilled trades.
The Skills Ontario Competition continues to be vital in promoting pathways in trades and technology, allowing students a chance to display their skills while exploring future career options.
