Two friends from London, Ont., who moved to Canada in the 1990s “in search of the Canadian dream,” have struck it rich with the biggest lottery payout ever in Canada, taking home a total of $80 million after winning the Lotto Max jackpot.

Greg S. and Krys P., who became friends years ago in an English-as-a-Second-Language class after arriving from Europe, matched all seven numbers in the Lotto Max draw on Dec. 30, 2025 – and since they opted for an eight-number combination play, they also snagged the second prize, adding over $403,000 to their winnings.

Greg shared that he found out about their win in a classic way – by circling each number on his ticket individually.

“I circled them all,” he told OLG as he recounted that moment when every number lined up. He then scanned his ticket using the OLG app and saw “Big Winner” along with the number 80, although he was skeptical at first.

Krys got the news when Greg’s wife called him early that morning.

“I checked it with my wife and saw we matched all the numbers. I was very happy and very nervous too,” he said, adding that he quickly drove to Greg’s place so they could confirm their win together.

From factory shifts to financial planning

Both men have spent almost thirty years working long hours in manufacturing jobs. Greg recently retired after 28 years without taking a single sick day. Krys worked grueling 12-hour shifts for many years and still can’t wrap his head around this massive windfall.

“I’ve never seen money like this in my life,” he remarked.

Now both are taking time to thoughtfully plan their futures. Greg has already met with a financial advisor and hopes to buy a new house, travel more, and enjoy time with family. His dream destinations include Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.

Krys also aims to buy a house and a car but intends to keep things as normal as possible.

“I don’t want to go crazy. I want to make sure we’re setting things up properly for future generations.”

The win feels surreal for both men – it’s incredibly meaningful for them.

“We came to Canada many years ago in search of the Canadian dream and a better life,” Greg said. “Winning this prize feels unimaginable – it’s amazing.”

Their winning ticket was bought at Happy Day’s Mini Mart on Aldersbrook Road in London, Ont.
