A person has died after being struck by a GO train in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Friday evening, police say.
The pedestrian was hit at a railway crossing in the area of Elgin Mills and Newkirk roads, according to York Regional Police. Officers responded to reports of a person being struck by a train at about 6:40 p. m.
When police arrived, they found the person suffering from critical injuries. The person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The GO train from Union Station at 5:45 p. m. to Bloomington GO station was held north of Richmond Hill GO station due to the police investigation.
The tracks were closed as police investigated.
Service on the Richmond Hill line has ended for the day.
CN police will take over the investigation, police said.
