Shoppers at a Windsor No Frills had to evacuate Monday morning after a fire started in a cooler, according to fire officials.
Firefighters arrived at the site across from Devonshire Mall shortly after 10:30 a. m., Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Smith mentioned in a text message to CBC on Monday.
The health board is involved and will assist in deciding when the store can reopen, Smith noted.
CBC has contacted No Frills owner Loblaws and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit for their input.
Earlier that morning, Windsor Fire and Rescue teams were also called to an industrial building on St. Etienne Boulevard near the airport, where they dealt with a fire involving a rooftop unit, Smith said.
Fire officials estimate that damages to the building’s heating and cooling system exceed $25,000, he stated.
There will also be losses related to production downtime.
The fire was caused by a broken gas line on the roof, Smith explained.
