2.99% tax rate increase confirmed

MARKHAM, ON – February 28, 2024 – The City of Markham has approved A Strong Markham: Budget 2024, presented by Mayor Frank Scarpitti on January 29. The tax rate increase of 2.99% will cost the average homeowner in Markham less than $40.

The budget approval comes after feedback from staff, Council, and community members. A Public Meeting took place on February 15 as part of the City’s dedication to budget transparency.

“We have created a strong and responsible budget, and we are proud of our fiscal management,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “With a 2024 property tax rate increase of 2.99%, Budget 2024 keeps affordability in mind and introduces a new Seniors tax relief program. Markham continues to have the lowest average tax rate increase in the GTA over 19 consecutive years. With the support of Council, Markham leads the way in delivering excellent services and investing in new infrastructure while maintaining our assets in a state of good repair. Together, we are always working for a stronger Markham.”
