A person has lost their life after their vehicle drove over a snowbank on the Highway 7 flyover ramp, landing onto Highway 8 below.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt informed that the incident occurred around 7:30 a. m. Monday.
The driver was declared dead at the scene after “losing control of the vehicle on the ramp and launching over the snow embankment to the highway below,” he said.
This marks the second vehicle incident involving an embankment on Monday.

Around 2 a. m., a taxi driver lost control while navigating from Highway 7 to Highway 8 and ended up on the road below.
“It was further down the ramp, so it wasn’t a massive drop,” said Schmidt.
“To my understanding, the driver was not seriously injured, which is fortunate.”
A video captured at the site shows that snow has been pushed against the edge of the flyover ramp, making its height level with the concrete barrier.
Roads in the area were either covered in snow, partially covered, or bare due to approximately 10 to 15 centimeters of snowfall that occurred on Sunday.
The Highway 7 ramp and Highway 8 leading towards King Street are closed as part of an ongoing investigation.
