Cory’s family is heartbroken to share the unexpected and tragic loss of Cory, who passed away in a crash involving his beloved truck on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 at just 18 years old. He was the adored son of Arjan and Woulien, a big brother to Aiden, Hailey, Matias, and a loving fiancé to Cadia Turcotte. Cory was also the great grandson of Jopie Meekel and Woutertje Bakker, as well as the grandson of Pim and Cora Spelt, and Teun and Willy Lok. He will be fondly missed by all his uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends.
Cory had a genuine love for farming and everything related to it-whether he was working in the fields, chatting about tractors or playing farming simulator. He was enthusiastic about diesel trucks and loved the sound of a powerful engine along with all things mechanical. Vintage Deutz tractors were especially close to his heart. Proud of his Dutch roots, he embraced them with humor and warmth; he even wore traditional wooden shoes at times. Cory enjoyed hearty meals, especially grilled cheese sandwiches (tostie), chocolate, ice cream, and cherished sharing food with others.
He was naturally quiet and humble but showed deep loyalty and kindness; always ready to help without expecting anything back. As a devoted fiancé to Cadia, he treated her with ongoing affection during their many trips back and forth to Ontario. His faith played an important role in his life as well; he actively participated in his church community where he served as a respected junior Cadet councillor who guided young boys toward Christ-like values.
Cory’s biggest dreams were straightforward yet meaningful: marrying Cadia-the love of his life-building a farm based on hard work like that taught by his parents while raising a loving family together. He looked ahead with hope, faith, and quiet resolve. “A life well lived is measured not by years but by the love we give and the lives we touch.” Cory made an impact on all our lives that won’t be forgotten.
“Rest easy Cory; the seeds you planted live on in all of us.”
